Abstract
The analysis of the Rainfall effects on the signal power attenuation is considered as a fundamental step in the satellite link adaptation and fade mitigation techniques due to the its major effect on the satellite communication services. This study presents an approach for analyzing the satellite link performance during rainfall in semi-tropical regions for frequencies above 10 GHz. The information from these analyses will be a good preliminary design benchmark for earth-sky microwave links in the subtropics and also provide a broad idea of rain attenuation and link performance for microwave engineers. Results show that a considerable change occurs in the performance of the wave propagated through the rain drops. The analyses are realistic approach for predicting the link characteristics based on actual measured rainfall rate.
